Oral English Screening Test for SISU MBA

(2023)

Test purpose

The Oral English Screening Test for SISU MBA is to find out whether candidates have enough oral communication ability in English to successfully participate in their future learning with the program. To be specific, the test tries to assess candidates in terms of effectively reading academic materials in English, and voicing their opinion in group discussion.

Test format

There are mainly two components in the talking part. First, candidates are expected to read a short quotation from a business-related article, and talk about their understanding and opinion about it. They are also expected to make a simple discussion by relating it with their company, themselves, or business in general.

The test is given in the form of group discussion of 25 minutes. About five candidates will take the test together, and complete the task by staging a discussion together.

Scoring policy

Scores will be given on the basis of candidates’ ideas (comprehension and discussion), language quality (English vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation) as well as appropriate performance during the discussion (contribution, time control, and turn-taking, etc.).

Sample tasks

1. Read the following material, and answer questions about it.

Guardian Insurance Co. from the U.S. has three central values: We do the right thing. People count. And we hold ourselves to very high standards. Its CEO Deanna Mulligan said that it was by focusing on these three values that she managed to lead the company through the serious challenges brought by Hurricane Sandy 2012.

What do you think of the values of the Guardian Insurance Co.? Does your company have a system of central values to ensure its development? Or do you know a Chinese company that has a central value system and benefits from it?

2. Look at the cartoon below, and answer the questions.

CFO: What if we invest in our people and they leave?

CEO: … What if we don’t and they stay?

What do you think this cartoon talks about? Do you think that it correctly describes the situation between the CFO and the CEO? What is your opinion on “investing in people”?

考試形式：線上全英文無領(lǐng)導(dǎo)小組討論

考試時間：20-40分鐘（每組5人左右）

考試須知：

1、面試預(yù)計將于3月進行，具體日期及注意事項將提前通過上海外國語大學(xué)MBA項目官網(wǎng)（http://mba.shisu.edu.cn）及官微（sisumba）發(fā)布通知，請考生密切留意。

2、 請攜帶身份證原件參加考試。

3、該考試暫定線上遠程小組討論，考生需準(zhǔn)備主、副機位，并于主機位上完成話題抽取和小組討論。

4、英文能力測試僅限報考全日制英文MBA、非全日制英文MBA的考生參加，測試結(jié)果不影響復(fù)試成績，僅作為分班依據(jù)。
